Deathfatties Living Dangerously

I didn't think I would do it.  I was scared of falling, being embarassed, not being strong enough, being the only fattie in the rink and perpetuating the stereotype that fat people don't do well at sports.  Wait, wouldn't I be perpetuating that stereotype just the same with my back against the wall?  It took me a few hours to decide that I would skate, move to get a pair, actually put them on and skate around on the carpet before I hit the rink.

It was so much fun I didn't want to leave, and I did terribly.

  1. I have a friend who is constantly bugging me to go skating. I refuse because the last time I went was awful! I fell, in the middle of the damn rink, and got the wind knocked out of me. Same night, I fell and bruised my ass! I tell her this and she doesn't care! Ugh! I don't want to injure myself again is all. It always looks fun, but damn, I just hate pain. Go figure. Ha!

  3. I haven't been roller skating in years, but I'd love to do it again. Roller skating and those arcade games sound like the best fun ever.

  5. "for good fellowship and wholesome recreation"
    Love it!

If it's anything like the roller rink we had growing up - kind of mangy, not very "wholesome" at all. But it was it's own kind of fun. And I really enjoyed playing the double dragon arcade game there.

  6. Oh god I want to go skating so badly -- I've always wanted to do roller derby too, but I've got so many badly healed ankle inuries I don't know if I ever could.

Also, you look way hot in skates!

  7. Aw. You look so beautiful having a good time! Please, go back and skate as much as you can so I can live vicariously. I'm just not physically able.

  9. Skating terrifies me, for exactly the same reasons that you list above, so I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one scared of the rink for reasons beyond "I'm unsteady on skates". I love that you went out and did it, anyway, and that you had so much fun. And, the top-right photo? Your smile = LOVE.

  10. Beej, you look absolutely amazing!

By the way, using your writing skills to define the /cryptic/ word "deathfatties" in Urban Dictionary would be a good idea! (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=deathfatty)

  11. You know me, I'm a big advocate of fatties on skates. If I were there, I'd have gone skating with you and maybe shown you a few tricks! :) Okay, very few, I'm not actually that great at it, either. Haha!

Roller derby girls are actually really nice! (I mean, I'm nice, right?) Pixie should get in touch with her local league and find out if she can carpool with someone.

And even if you have old injuries like Aura, there's other ways of being involved in the fun, like volunteering or being a referee. :)

  13. Thank you everyone for the comments, Sarah, you should get out there and do it again! In a way I was kinda disappointed (using kinda loosely but) because I didn't just get to get it over with. Ms. Ten, is skating a trick, too? Thank you Purple I hope next time you get a surge of fattie power-ups and GO! I'm glad this post brought about so many memories and good vibrations<333
